WHAT IS THE TERRA SALINA?
THE TERRA SALINA BEARS WITNESS TO THE WEALTH OF CULTURAL HERITAGE IN OUR REGIONS
In the Terra Salina project all actors involved in tourism in the area referred to as the “Arc Jurassien”
(located in the Franche-Comté region in France and the Cantons of Bern, Vaud, Neuchâtel and Jura in Switzerland)
work together to promote “go-as-you-like tourism”. The project was initiated in 2012 by the Royal Saltworks of Arc-et-Senans,
the region of Yverdon-les-Bains, the Great Saltworks of Salins-les-Bains, the Foundation for the Bex saltmines,
the Old Town of Bern and the Citadel of Besançon.
These partners gathered around the aim of highlighting and enhancing the exceptional natural and cultural heritage
of the six regions involved, with their seven UNESCO World Heritage sites, three cities with thermal centres and
three cities where salt plays a mayor role. Because of Terra Salina's strength as a cross-border unifying project,
it obtained financial support from the European Commission in the context of the Interreg IV-A France-Switzerland programme.
