TERRA SALINA, WHERE NATURE AND HERITAGE MEET
The Terra Salina itinerary includes four historical sites where salt was produced or where its history is told:
the Mines of Bex (Switzerland), the Royal Saltworks of Arc-et-Senans (in the Doubs region), the Great Saltworks
of Salins-les-Bains (in the Jura region) and the Roman salt transportation tracks of Vuiteboeuf (Switzerland).
There are three cities with thermal centres: Yverdon-les-Bains (Switzerland), Salins-les-Bains and Lons-le-Saunier
(Jura) and seven sites that are on the UNESCO World Heritage list: La Chaux-deFonds/Le Locle – urban design for watch-making,
the Old Town of Bern, the Prehistoric Pile Dwellings around the Alps (on the edges of the Neuchâtel lake),
the terraced vineyards of Lavaux, the Royal Saltworks of Arc-et-Senans together with the Great Saltworks of Salins-les-Bains,
and the fortifications of Vauban with the Citadel of Besançon.
The Jura region offers a myriad of splendid scenery and the opportunity to make numerous theme-based and cultural visits. A journey through the Jura mountains, in the footsteps of our ancestors, allows the traveller to discover traditional regional products, local know-how and colourful people.
